On October 15, 2021 (Dusshera), Zee Studios, along with Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma, officially made the announcement about “Gadar 2: The Katha Continues” through their social media platforms. The release date for 2022 was revealed alongside a motion poster.
On January 26, 2023 (Republic Day), the initial poster for the sequel, titled “Gadar 2,” was unveiled. The poster features Sunny Deol’s character, Tara Singh, holding a hammer. Notably, “Gadar Ek Prem Katha” had a re-release in theaters on June 9, 2023. This series of announcements and posters have kept fans eagerly anticipating the continuation of the Gadar saga.
Sunny Deol takes on the role of Tara Singh once again, although he initially had reservations about revisiting the character. He believed that films like “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha” are unique and can only be created once in history. Deol acknowledges, “We made Gadar, but it was the audience who turned it into a Blockbuster. At first, I had some doubts about whether we could do justice and carry forward the legacy of the first installment.”
The film’s director, Anil Sharma, shared how he persuaded Deol to return. Sharma explained, “When I presented the concept of Gadar 2, Sunny was a bit hesitant due to his perception that Gadar was already a blockbuster and shouldn’t be tampered with. I urged him that the nation was clamoring for a sequel, and we should honor their sentiments. After numerous discussions, he agreed to listen to the storyline. As we sat down for the narration, he was moved to tears. That marked the inception of Gadar 2’s journey.”
Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma have also returned to reprise their characters of Sakeena and Charanjeet “Jeete” Singh, respectively, as seen in the initial movie. The addition of Simrat Kaur to the cast has brought a fresh dynamic to the film. Notably, Manish Wadhwa was approached for the role of a Pakistani army general, while Rohit Choudhary also secured the role of another Pakistani army general. The film has also enlisted the talents of Luv Sinha and Gaurav Chopra in pivotal roles. By May 2023, the filming of the project had been successfully concluded.

However, a setback occurred when the film was leaked on YouTube just two days after its theatrical release starting from August 11, 2023. This untimely leak slightly impacted the box office collections and led to a clash with “OMG 2.”
The highly favorable box office reception led numerous theaters to schedule screenings well into the late night and early morning hours. ZEE5 secured the digital streaming rights for the movie.
