“Mai: A Mother’s Rage,” alternatively referred to as “Mai,” is an Indian Hindi-language family thriller drama series available for streaming on Netflix in 2022. It was created by Atul Mongia, directed by Anshai Lal, and produced by Anushka Sharma and her elder brother Karnesh Sharma through Clean Slate Filmz.

The series boasts a talented ensemble cast including Sakshi Tanwar, Wamiqa Gabbi, Prashant Narayanan, Raima Sen, Anant Vidhat Sharma, and Vaibhav Raj Gupta in pivotal roles. The storyline revolves around a grieving mother who, upon uncovering the culprits behind her daughter’s tragic demise, undergoes a transformation from timid to relentless in her quest to uncover the truth. The series made its debut on Netflix on April 15, 2022, and has been renewed for a second season.

Plot:

Sheel Chaudhary, an ordinary mother and nurse employed at Geeta Bhawan, a facility for the elderly, is devastated when her daughter, Supriya, is killed in a hit-and-run incident. As the mourning rituals for her daughter unfold, Sheel stumbles upon evidence suggesting that Supriya’s demise was not a mere accident but a carefully orchestrated murder. Fueled by grief and determination, the grieving mother embarks on a relentless quest to unearth the real circumstances surrounding her daughter’s death.

Release:

Netflix India initially announced the series for a 2021 release, but it faced delays in post-production. Consequently, it was eventually made available to viewers on April 15, 2022.

Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express provided a positive assessment of the series, noting that despite certain elements that require suspension of disbelief, Sakshi Tanwar’s performance successfully captivates the audience. On the other hand, Nandini Ramnath of Scroll.in described the series as a standard thriller presented in a stylish manner.
